Mezame
Handcrafted Ceramic Matcha Bowls (Chawan)
Description
Description
Every good matcha ritual starts with the right bowl. Our chawans are handcrafted by skilled Indian artisanal potters and inspired by Japanese tea traditions. Each design draws on something from nature or Japanese aesthetics, whether that’s calm ocean waves, spring blossoms, lush meadows or marbled stone. Because every bowl is shaped and glazed by hand, no two are exactly alike.
Each bowl has a wide base and a generous rim, which gives you room to whisk freely and build a smooth, frothy bowl of matcha. It holds a single serving or multiple, making it suitable for cafes too. Choose the design that suits your mood, and make your morning matcha a moment of calm you look forward to.
You can buy any bowl on its own, or pair it with a matching chasen (whisk) holder. The holder helps your bamboo whisk dry in its natural shape, so it lasts longer. Together, they make a complete ritual set and a thoughtful gift.

Wondering why Mezame matcha bowls are expensive? There's a reason.
100% hand-crafted - no moulds for mass production
Every Mezame chawan is handcrafted by artisan potters in India - not factory-produced or mass-manufactured. Each bowl is made individually, which means there are minor natural variations in glaze texture and finish between pieces. These are not defects - they are the hallmark of handmade craft. No two Mezame bowls are exactly identical, and that is by design.
100% food safe to use on a daily basis
Every Mezame chawan is toxin-free, food-grade certified, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe. Many affordable ceramics sold in India use lead-based glaze and hence may not be food-safe. Mezame bowls are built specifically for daily use with hot matcha and made to meet the standards that require.
Microwave safe
Mezame chawans are fully dishwasher safe and microwave safe. Hand washing is always gentler on glaze over the long term, but the bowls are designed and tested to withstand dishwasher cycles without degrading. For microwave use, the bowl itself will not be damaged - as with any ceramic, be aware that it will retain heat and may become warm to hold after microwaving.
